The original Bluenose II pictured at left still lives on in the amazing photographic art of Maurice Crosby. His images of Bluenose II are considered to be the finest available anywhere. Several grace the homes of world leaders and heads of state. Maurice has teamed up with me and Lunenburg Shipyard Alliance to offer his images of Bluenose II along with my construction images for sale to the public.
Bluenose II is currently undergoing a two year long reconstruction. The work is being completed in Lunenburg , Nova Scotia by three companies; Covey Island Boatworks, Snyder's Shipyard, and Lunenburg Foundry. The new company is called Lunenburg Shipyard Alliance (LSA). I have joined their team as the official LSA photographer. As the project progresses so too will this part of my website as I chronicle each stage of the process up to and including sea trials in March of 2012.
Peter Matyas is the official artist for the rebuilding of Bluenose II by Lunenburg Shipyard Alliance. His signature piece for this project was painted on site during the actual reconstruction work. Besides being a beautiful painting it is remarkable in that it includes an individual portrait of each crew member of the three companies who are doing the reconstruction. They are Covey Island Boatworks, Lunenburg Foundry and Snyder's Shipyards.
An impressive artwork of almost six and a half feet in length, this painting will be offered on canvas as a limited edition numbered run of fifty. For more information or to reserve an assigned print number for purchase contact Mark Doucette at mdphoto@eastlink.ca or call (902) 499 2409.
Gail Patriarche (nee Farmer) was born and raised in Ottawa Canada, but spent many of her adult years in Whitby, Ontario. Gail has sketched and painted all her life and is a self-taught passionate watercolour artist painting any realistic outdoor subjects with flair, colour and detail.
As a young artist just out of school, she began work with the National Research Council of Canada, drafting and sketching for the laboratory journals.
Later on moving to Toronto, Ontario, she got her first job in commercial art with General Foods, and later with General Printers. Ultimately she started her own business, Studio 601 that was an Advertising and Printing business located in Whitby, Ontario and remained in that field for the next 15 years.
Gail returned to Fine Art and opened her first gallery 28 years ago in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia.
Her soft but strong detailed and flowing watercolours tend to be Marine orientated and include Seascapes, Landscapes, Local Scenes, Wildlife and Children at play but will paint on most any subject that has an interesting story to it.
Her Gallery overlooks Lunenburg Harbour and all the excitement and activity of Schooners, Fishing Boats and Sailboats, all providing inspiration and influence in her work as a professional watercolour artist.
She has a large following and has sold extensively across Canada, the United States, England and Spain.

Jason Cullen - One Stop Wood Shop
Jason Cullen has joined our team. A talented artist and wood carver, he immediately saw the potential in the wood scraps and cut off segments from the reconstruction project. He began by creating a beautiful box from a frame cut off. It was stamped with the official LSA logo and signed by Jason on the bottom. This piece still showed the frame number from the construction process and it carried a small brass "Bluenose ll" plaque. His first piece generated a great deal of interest and several more works followed, each carrying its own unique connection to the Bluenose project. His handcrafted pieces, such as treasure chest-style boxes and clocks shaped like sail boats, are delicately made to preserve the authentic markings and numbers used by the shipyard. Each piece also comes adorned with a metal stamp from the shipyard.
He will continue to work on repurposing cut offs from the reconstruction process to create unique items , each piece individual and hand crafted. To see more of Jason's work visit his website at www.onestopwoodshop.ca or visit him at his gallery in Bishop's Landing,Halifax.
